OK, here's some September data: I tracked 234 items last month, and they sold for a total of $68,343! That's a couple grand more than our May totals, but still way down from the early spring (see the archives, linked below). Here's some highlights of what changed hands: (25) 1448 guitars/amps or one or the other, (15) 1457s, (15) 1484 amps, (12) 1482 amps, and (12) 1483 amps (!) in the bunch. The highest dollar item was a nice 'Chris Isaak' 1446  that sold for $1,496, and the least amount brought was $1 for a Silvertone microphone.

As usual, a busy Monday, and a few notables changing hands this weekend. First, an unusual 1479 Harmony-made guitar that didn't appear in the catalogs, close cousin to the 1477.

Then, a very rarely seen 1407, close sibling to the Teisco-made 1413.


And to keep the 'ya just don't see a lot of these' hit parade going, a fine looking 1411 from the Lawman.

The Autumnal Equinox is upon us... shorter days, holidays comin' at us like a freight train, and I would hope the auctions are gonna heat up a little bit. The prices have really been suppressed lately, and maybe that's just a sign of the shaky ground our economy is on; it's really a buyer's market right now. Peter Buck's 360 Rickenbacker was stolen in Finland last week; you may have seen the 'feature bug' on the front page leading you to a story about it. I had already built the framework for the 1453 page, but the coincidence of this theft, coupled with the fact that one just happened to pop up for auction last week, led me to complete the page for the Silvertone 1453, a Rick-ish clone from Harmony.  The stolen guitar was the Rick 360 that helped Peter form R.E.M.'s sound, and has been one of his main guitars since the very early 80s. Of course, one of the main amps that Buck plays through is a Silvertone 1483. What possible joy could the thief of this guitar ever have? He can't show it off, he can't sell it... all he can do is know that he has deprived an artist of a treasured tool. Pathetic.

RIP Jerry Reed- The 'Alabama Wild Man' started a whole new school of country pickin' and his sense of humor and songwriting craft has been something Nashville's been lacking for YEARS. I remember staying up late, waiting for my local country station to play "Lord, Mr. Ford" and "Crude Oil Blues" back in the day. "Amos Moses," "Uptown Poker Club," and an incredibly beautiful song, "Smell the Flowers" are the ones I remember. I still quote his end rap at the very tail end of C.O.Blues: "He who expecteth nothin', ain't gonna be deceived." I got to see him at the NC state fair a few years back... his voice wasn't what it used to be but boy, could he play. Also, as one of the few (if not the only) folks to stand up to Col. Tom Parker and refuse to give away half his rights to his songs just because Elvis was cutting it, he stands head and shoulders above the rest. A true original, a great player and a very nice man. Getting the month going with some nice items, a rare 1475, a 'Wish Book only' 1304, an OK (but rare) 1385 and a super nice 'Chris Isaak' 1446! And check out that crazy 1481 mod! I gotta show you a coupla bigger pics of that one. Can anybody ID the cabinet it's built into? I kinda recognize it, but can't quite put my finger on it.
