Little piece of history went on the block this past week; a model 1459 Danelectro-built Silvertone amp from the famed Indigo Ranch in Malibu. Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, the Ventures, Canned Heat, the Go-Gos, Neil Diamond,  Lenny Kravitz, Sting... the list goes on and way on... anyhoo, a 1459 from the indigo Ranch Studio went for $244.
 

The 1459 is a mystery I'm still trying to solve. Never seen in any major seasonal catalog, I've got a feeling it's in the same category as the 1451 and 1389; 'Wish Book' only amps that were paired with a guitar for a super great under-the-tree price. It's identical to the 1432 except for its black covering and black panel screen print. To further muddy the waters there's a late 60s 1459.

Here's the Indigo Ranch 1459, you can see 'INDIGO' scrawled on the top and bottom amp chassis panels. Indigo is famous for its vintage equipment, and this 1459 is one of the hundreds of tube amps that were part of Indigo's sonic arsenal.

A BUNCH of folks have recorded there (Pearl Jam, Go-Gos, Neil Diamond... just Google 'Indigo Ranch'). The amp has 'Indigo' scrawled on it in several places. A bit of an oddball, the 1459 never appeared in a major seasonal catalog. It was basically a 1432, but the covering and silkscreen was black rather than gray.

Whew! May got slam away from me! I have just now caught up all auctions since the first of the month. Still a lot of great deals not even being bid on in these days of pre-election-subprime-high-gas-price insanity, so if you want a solid deal without the adrenaline of the auction, you can pickup some great stuff at the 'Buy It Now' counter at ebay. I've seen some seriously nice guitars go unbid for, when I've seen identical (or not as nice) models go for big $$$ in previous auctions.
 

In the pipeline right now is a page dedicated to the rarest Silvertone ever:
the Murph-built 12-string electric. It recently sold on ebay for a paltry $736, and it may be the only one in existence out of the 25 that Pat Murphy's California guitar company built on spec for Sears back in 1966. Things are tough all over, as evidenced by our dollar totals for the month of April. $76,372 went cha-ching for only 269 Silvertone-branded items tracked here on these pages. That's down almost 7 grand from the March total. Gas & food prices as well as other economic woes may be to blame, but it may just be luck of the draw. I mean, just a half dozen or so 1446s would have made up the deficit. We'll know better once I've been tracking these things a coupla years, yes? Prices ranged from a top 3 high dollar amount of $1350 for a not-as-nice-as-that-price-would-have-you-think 'Chris Isaak' 1446 guitar, $1287 for a seldom seen 1385 'Espanada' model, and $1225 for a dice-knobbed 1446; all the way down to $1 for a Silvertone instruction pamphlet. All in all, we tied March with, a whopping 25 1448 guitars, amps or both changed owners, and then saw 11 1457s, only 1 1449, an amazing 20 1484 amps/cabinets/both, 7 1482s, 5 1481s, 6 1472s, 3 1464s, 2 1483s, 3 1423s, 7 1446s, and 4 1420s, and 5 of the various Teisco-built non-seasonal catalog models, mostly the pointy ones, like this super-cool 'greenburst' model:
