Well, this will be the last complete daily rundown of completed auction prices until the fall. I generally take the summer off from detailing daily auction sales, and concentrate on getting new guitar and other pages up on the site, as well as some other projects. I'll still be watching the auctions, of course, and reporting on anything rare or unusual... you never know when a super-rare Murph Silvertone might show up! The Sears catalog frequently called the 1384/1385/1427 the "Black Beauty," but I've also seen them referred to by the Harmony counterpart name "Espanada." The first one looks great, the second one... well, it's had a few mods for sure, and not quite as well kept, obviously. Unusual to see them anytime, it's really great to see two at once, if only for easy comparison.

Meeeeow! Great looking early 'Bobkat' to start off this Thursday's completed auctions. The model 1477 was available without a whammy in its earliest incarnations, from 1963 until 1966. Available in the sunburst seen here, or basic cool rockin' black (model 1476, only available through 1966). The actual Harmony model H15 'Bobkat' had a slightly different look (that's it in the last picture there), with slanted pickups and more pickguard area. I think the Silvertone looks better, but then, I usually do...

Is this for real? I've NEVER seen one before; not in an auction, certainly not in any catalog. It's an 'SG' body type Teisco-made Silvertone branded BASS! How crazy is that? The 'V' headstock actually looks more 'Hagström-y', but as far as I know, Sears never did any business with the Swedish company. Besides, it's got all the Teisco hallmarks; the tuners are right, the bridge assembly is right, the neck is right. I enhanced the brightness/sharpness in the logo picture to bring out a line around the 'Silvertone' decal. Could be the real deal... a very rare store-only guitar, or maybe an 'on-spec' sample that escaped into the wild, or it could be an imaginative fake. Stranger things have happened. Anybody else seen or own one? I love surprises!

Was this one cobbled together from parts? Is it a one off, or a 'production run tail end' guitar? Rough but rare, that's the word on that 1473 you see below. Well, not too rough, just a little edge and corner wear. No matter, this rare amp brought some good money, and it's great to see it! Sears only offered it for a year, and they didn't sell particularly well, so you just don't see 'em very often.

The April totals were kinda sad, really, compared to last year. There were lots of great items, don't get me wrong, but the prices were depressed, and I saw a ton of great guitars and amps un-bid on. I tracked 219 items in April, and they sold for a total of $55,880. That's almost $21,000 less than the April '08 numbers!

Here's some highlights of what changed hands: (19) 1448 guitars/amps or one or the other, (9) 1457s, (17) 1484 amps, (4) 1485 amps, (5) 1482 amps, (12) 1481 amps, and only (3) 1446 'Chris Isaak' model guitars, and (7) 604 guitars in the bunch. The highest dollar item was a very clean 1485 amp and cabinet that went for $1602, and the least amount brought was $5 for a very poor 604 guitar.

An interesting start to the merry month of May with this '71 vintage 1294. It's interesting (in a purely guitar-nerd academic sort of way) in that the original box that is included in this guitar's auction is stamped with the 1294 model number, but the print all over the box stills says Silvertone, even though the 1294 was strictly a 'Space Dot' guitar. Speaking of which, I don't know what happen to this one's 'dot,' maybe a little fingernail polish remover did the trick, as the stylized 'SR' logo was simply silk-screened on.
