Vintage Sears Christmas Ads from the
1950s, 1960s (and a couple of 70s!), Pt. V
More great Sears holiday ads! Plus, I couldn't resist a few other 'Wish Book'
treats!
Rockin' it post-Summer Of Love style with the 1482, and the
'professional' new ampincase setup, the
1451.
This'll be the Dano-built 1304 offered with the rare
1389 amp in 1959.
Also, check that expensive transistor radio!
Can't really ID this one... Maybe a 710 or a 696.
TWANG! went the mid-60s with the classic 1448! Note the illustration
showing what look to be the ribbed dome knobs of the very earliest 1448s. They
would have been the black ribbed 'barrel' knobs with paper inserts by 1965.
Fill the house with Joyous music! With your
604 or some of those great
albums. Then ride to your friend's house on your JET AGE STYLED bike!
One price, multiple choice gifts! The guitar is a 606, identical to the 604, made by Harmony.
Not a Silvertone, but hey... this 'Wing Ding' guitar is almost a YARD
long!
From 1968, it's the Harmony-made 1210 flattop, with the Silvertone logo
on the pickguard as well as the headstock! And, dig that mono record player!
25 bucks difference between the previous
1451setup and this. It pays
to wait on those sales!
It's unusual for newspaper ads to feature the Sears part number, but this ad for the ampincase 1448 and the following 606 both had helpful numbers to assist you in shopping.
The (mostly) Harmony-made 604 was known by a couple of other model
numbers; the 608 and, pictured here, the 606.
Ahhh, the 70s... polyester shirts and Space Dot guitars. This is likely the 1294 or 1295.
Precision built for positive tuning... beautifully finished to look like the real thing!
This isn't a holiday ad, it's from the spring of '66, but what the
hey... it features a cool rockin' dude on the 1448, and a seldom-seen classical guitar.
'Steel strings give a true sound?' There's a sticker inside that classical
telling you to STAY AWAY from steel strings...
Yeee-ha, pard'ner! Cowboy Bill is leadin' the hoe-down with his
604,
complete with poly-cord 'strap.'
More mid-70s fun; interesting that Sears is making a big deal out of
this 1239 (I think it's a 1239, the price matches, but the slot-head depiction
is more in line with a 1218 or 1238 from that year) guitar being made by
Harmony. They also mention it in the Wish Book ad.
Hootenannies were still 'in' in 1964! I wish this scan was better! Look
at the detail on the bottom of the fingerboard, as well as an unusual tailpiece,
too. May just be a fanciful illustration, as no Silvertone of that era had such
a detail. Of course, it might have been a 'Wish Book' only offering; the price
is higher than any guitar offered in 1964 save for the _very_ different
621.
This one shares more looks-wise with a 603.
See? Hootenanny!
This 1294 or
1295 came with a snazzy gift box/carry
case.
Rockin' with the 1482 and the available all alone
1450, the almost-twin
to the 1452. Dunno what Little Lord Fauntleroy is playin'...
Bring the whole band along! Why not? You've got EIGHT TRACKS!
1295, with rockin' dude lookin' like he's playin' a slick lead.
It's just COOL to have a newspaper called 'The Vindicator!' The guitar and drum set is likely not branded Silvertone or Space Dot.
