The 1443, along with its close sibling the 1442,
was the last of its kind, bringing and end to the Dano/Sears alliance that had
been bringing us great instruments and amps since the 40s. MCA tried to make a
switch from big retailers to individual guitar shops, and the Danelectro
'division' bled out. MCA closed the doors to he Neptune factory in 1969.

The 1443 is a lovely, modern long scale bass. Like
its solidbody siblings the 1442,
1451 and 1452,
it was available for only a short period before Danelectro evaporated.
A bit more fancy than the 1442 with beefier individual tuners and chrome pickup
bezels, the 1443 featured all the great technology and features that Dano was famous for; the
tilt neck adjustment, two lipstick pickups, the elegant bridge (first seen waaay back
in 1954), and it even came with a sturdy red rayon-lined case for the $114.95
price!
