The 1442 was the last of its kind - a
Danelectro-made bass, and one of the very last Dano-built Silvertones of
any kind to be sold by Sears. By the time the '68 holiday
season had rolled around, you didn't see any Dano-made instruments available
in the catalogs. The 'Made In Japan' guitars had taken over, and the MCA-owned Danelectro was no more.

The 1442 was/is a great short-scale bass: unique sound courtesy
of the famous Dano lipstick tube pickup, a nice balance and a fine
'tobacco-burst' finish, quite different from its double-pickup'd tortoise shell
and racing redburst brother, the 1443.
It featured all the great technology and features that Dano was famous for; the
tilt neck adjustment, the pickup, the elegant bridge (first seen waaay back
in 1954), and it even came with a sturdy red rayon-lined case for the $79.95
price!
