The 'Speed Demon'-based 1445 helped the Illinois-based Kay
keep things interesting with their
wavy-edge pickguards and big beefy pickups, and to Kay's credit, snazzy binding
and big block neck
markers throughout the life of the instrument.

The 1445 was a Kay-built semi-hollow body with Les
Paulâ„¢ looks and a curly maple top. It had those soap-bar sized 'speed bump'
pickups, and knobs galore. The catalog listings all say 'black back,' but as
these photo gallery shows, the good-looking blonde natural finish was on the back of this guitar as
well.
The Kay 'Speed Demon' model was a close cousin to this snazzy Silvertone,
and there was even a brownburst unlisted version of this guitar that resembled the
'Demon' even more! Check the photo gallery for it.
