The 252 was the first in a long line of Silvertone-branded six-string
acoustics, first listed in the fall of 1940. Sears was still finding its
footing with its new musical instrument brand; this guitar would be mixed in with Supertone, Playtime and Gene Autry
models for the next year or so.

The Silvertone 252 was the first in line from the 1940
crop of the newly-minted Silvertone guitar brand. They are very rare, and I've
only seen the one depicted in the gallery. Nothing earth-shaking; just a nice,
competent archtop from our friends at Harmony, some nice faux striping, and an
unusual radius-topped headstock. It joined a still-varied collection of guitars
in the Sears lineup, but its distinction is that of the very first six-string
strummer to be honored with the name Silvertone.
