A great place for a visual as well as historic record of the great Wolf can be had in this DVD,
The Howlin' Wolf Story - The Secret History of Rock & Roll.

I can't think of a better place to start with the Wolf, music-wise, than at the beginning:
Memphis Days: Definitive Edition, Vol. 1. This album, along with Vol. 2 of the series, details his beginnings with the great Sam Phillips at Sun Studios in Memphis.

Of course, the Wolf took it a lot further than the confines of 706 Union Avenue in Memphis, and Chicago was the home base. This album,
Howlin' Wolf: His Best (Chess 50th Anniversary Collection), is a fine detail on his more popular 'hits' of his career.

The
Howlin Wolf Chess Box Set will certainly fill your Wolf tooth with 75 tracks of Wolf-y goodness. This collection puts it all together, with material from Memphis to Chicago, and on into the early 70s and the end of the Wolf's life.

If you'd like some excellent reading on the Wolf, grab Peter Guralnick's terrific
Feel Like Going Home: Portraits in Blues and Rock 'n' Roll, which has a great essay on the Wolf as well as other artists, and Segrest & Hoffman's Moanin' at Midnight: The Life and Times of Howlin' Wolf, a complete biography of the big man.
