There wasn't really
a predecessor to this guitar...it was just one of many simple
one pickup machines that Sears sold. Not much
to it; no switches, no whammy bar, no fanciness or features at all. Just a
pickup, tuners and a tailpiece. At least it had a volume AND a tone control.

The 1406 was a Japanese-made single pickup entry-level
axe from our friends at Teisco. It was as basic as you could get, and its
styling left a bit to be desired, in my book. Oddly, the guitar's final (I
assume) and far more rare iteration was much more attractive, as well as not listed in any catalog
that I can find. It's the exception to the rule, however, as most 1406 models
that you see will be the one that is listed in the Sears catalog from 1971ish
through
1972. Most are 'Space Dot' branded, a precious few got a metal Silvertone logo.
First Sighting:
1970/71(?) at $27.95
Last Sighting: Fall/Winter 1972 at $30.95.
