The 1451 amp-in-case was
the beginning of the end. While it was the first actual solidbody Silvertone made by Dano,
made from an actual piece of solid wood, it was also the end of Dano as a supplier to Sears
for guitars and amps. After late 1968, much of the personality of the Sears instrument & amp line was
drained of its vitality. Generic amps and guitars without
even the benefit of the Silvertone name ruled at Sears, and brought a
great era in American music to a close.
Introduced:
1966 at $77.95
as the 57B1451L
Retired:
Spring/Summer 1968 at $99.95
as the 57K1451L
The final Silvertone amp-in-case models made by Danelectro
were the 145X series, of which the 1451 guitar is the one-pickup model. After a
long and fruitful relationship dating back to the 1940s, these were some of the last
Silvertones from the
tried and true (and soon to be sold to MCA) instrument and amplifier company.
