The 658 broke out
of the tobacco-burst and blonde archtop mode, along with the
Kentucky Blue. It's just bad to the
bone... the outlaw guitar! Put on your leather jacket and break some strings!
If Johnny Ramone played acoustic, I bet this would be the
one!

The 658 was introduced in early 1963, just as the 653
'Kentucky Blue' was exiting the stage. Gotta keep a cool paint job guitar in the
catalog, so here comes the 658, ready to rock with its jet black good looks,
snazzy block fret markers and cool racing stripes. The paint job covered the
3-ply laminate, so the plywood could look less than perfect, but the cool look
and sturdy
appointments to the guitar made (and make) it a desirable model.
Block neck markers changed to dot markers in 1966, so use this aid when dating
your 658.
Introduced: Spring/Summer 1963
Retired: Fall / Winter 1968
